Established in 1871, Vinita is the oldest town in Oklahoma. It was named after Vinnie Ream, the sculptress who modeled the life-size statue of Abraham Lincoln in the capitol. Cowboy philosopher, Will Rogers, attended secondary school here and the annual rodeo is named in his honor.
